At 08:02 Beijing time on April 20, 2013, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurred in Lushan County, Ya’an City, Sichuan Province (30.3 north latitude, 103.0 east longitude), with an epicenter depth of 13 kilometers and an epicenter about 100 kilometers away from Chengdu. Chengdu, Chongqing and Baoji, Hanzhong, Ankang and other places in Shaanxi all felt strong earthquakes. According to the Emergency Office of the Ya’an Municipal Government, more than 99% of the houses in Longmen Township, Lushan County, the epicenter, collapsed, and the health center and inpatient department stopped working, and water and power were cut off. Up to now, there have been 37 earthquakes of magnitude 3.5 or above, with a maximum aftershock of magnitude 5.1. The affected population is 1.52 million, the affected area is 12,500 square kilometers, and thousands of casualties have been caused. Sichuan has experienced catastrophes, in a sense, it is a place full of disasters, but in the face of disasters, the people of Sichuan and our Chinese nation have shown the spirit of sharing joys and sorrows, especially the spirit of being in the same boat and helping each other through hardships.
